“Those who prey on our children tear the fabric of our society, which is trained to protect our most vulnerable members at all costs,” said Arapahoe County District Attorney John Kellner in a release.

“The life of the young victim is forever altered, as is that of his family. This defendant deserves a harsh sentence for his crimes.”

Charges were brought against Sandoval after the 13-year-old victim’s mother found his phone and discovered “disturbing text messages,” according to the release. The boys mother contacted the Aurora Police Department and an investigation ensued.

Throughout the investigation, officials located “dozens of videos” of Sandoval with teenage boys in his home. Kellner said due to problems in identifying the other victims and cooperation led them to bringing the case with only one victim.

During the sentencing on Monday, the victims mother spoke about the long-lasting effects the crimes have held on the family.

“A grown man enticed and lured a child for his sexual gratification — he is a sick and disgusting predator,” she told the judge.

“Such disgusting acts of a predator can never be forgiven. We will be living with this forever.”

Sandoval will serve at least 22 years in prison and will only be released if he no longer considered a danger to the public. Upon his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender and will remain on parol for 20 years to life.
