The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing a 5-mile stretch of the Interstate 70 mountain corridor in May, officials announced Friday.
All but one lane of westbound I-70 will be closed from Silverthorne to Frisco on weekdays between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., with the anticipation that there will be no worked performed on the weekend, officials said in a news release.
The project is intended to improve safety and minimize pot holes from developing on the interstate’s on-ramps by replacing deteriorating portions of three concrete bridges, CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew said.
“Addressing the … the bridge decks is an important part of improving the motorist experience and maintaining this population section of I-70,” Lew said in the release.
Additionally, 15,492 linear feet of guardrails are to be replaced and upgraded to prevent future slope erosion.
CDOT will have a better estimated completion date once the asphalt is removed and the existing concrete is testing for soundness, according to the release. Until then, additional closures and potential weekend working days are possible, officials said.
