A man wanted in connection to a homicide eluded officers Wednesday after being stopped inside a stolen car, the Wheat Ridge Police Department said.
Police said they responded to a car that had been reported stolen at 2:35 a.m. at Lee Street and West 44th Avenue. Police recognized the man inside the car as a suspect in a homicide and the man fled.
A Code Red alert was issued in the surrounding area, shutting down the intersection as police searched for the man.
Police asked residents in nearby neighborhoods to stay inside and not answer their doors.
After nearly two hours, police called off the search just after 4:30 a.m. without having found the suspect.
The man, whose name was not released, is described as Hispanic in his mid-40s. He’s 6-foot-1, 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Police said if anyone sees the suspect to not approach him and instead call 911.
