A man was killed Tuesday night after he crashed his vehicle into a tree, the Lakewood Police Department announced.
Police said the crash happened about 8 p.m. on South Kipling Parkway just south of West Girton Drive, near Bear Creek High School.
Witnesses called 911 and, when officers arrived, they found a black SUV crashed into a tree in the median of the road.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant of the vehicle, police said. The driver’s identity will be released by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office after his family has been notified.
No one else, including pedestrians, were injured in the crash, police said.
Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe the driver was speeding while going north on South Kipling Parkway and lost control, hitting the tree.
The crash remains under investigation.
