Aurora man gets life sentence for murdering his mother in 2018

An Aurora man convicted of killing his mother in 2018 was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A jury found Joseph Ribble, 45, guilty last week of first-degree murder and second-degree aggravated car theft. The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Pirraglia and Deputy District Attorney Lillie Parker.

Ribble killed his mother, 65-year-old Lila Ann King, inside of her Weld County home in July 2018, according to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.

King was found dead by a neighbor on July 24, 2018. The Weld County Coroner’s Office determined that King had been strangled to death and sustained injuries to her head and brain, according to the arrest affidavit.

Neighbors told police that they heard a heated argument between King and Ribble days before her body was found.

Police searched for Ribble, eventually locating him at a homeless shelter in Texas in August 2018. Ribble had stolen King’s SUV and one of her dogs before fleeing the state, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

After killing his mother, Ribble dragged her body into her bedroom and stayed in her home for a day before leaving.

According to the affidavit, King called the police on Ribble less than a year before her death, telling officers that Ribble was drunk and threatened to kill her.

Ribble will serve his sentence in a state prison.
