Small amount of oil sheen found in Colorado creek

A small amount of oil sheen was discovered in Sand Creek near Suncor Energy in Commerce City Saturday morning.

Suncor officials observed the oil sheen in Sand Creek at 10 a.m. and prompted their emergency response and environmental teams to respond, according to a release from the company.

The teams installed booms in the creek in an effort to isolate and protect the area. Additionally, vacuum trucks were used to gather the material.

Crews are monitoring the air and creek as a precaution, according to the release

“Our top priorities are ensure the safety of our team and the community, and protecting the environment,” officials said in the release. “We are taking this situation seriously and have notified the appropriate authorities.”

Officials said no wildlife has been seen in the immediate area.
