Denver’s Juneteenth Music Festival to be in-person, first festival in Denver post-pandemic

Music, dancing, food and freedom fill the air and streets of Denver’s Five Points neighborhood during its annual Juneteenth Musical Festival.

Although last year’s event was virtual due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s celebration that begins on June 15 and continues through June 20, will be the first festival returning in Denver post-pandemic, according to a release from the festival.

In addition to returning to in-person, the organizers announced several new events such as the “Juneteenth R&B Summer Kick Off” on June 18, a family-friendly, “cookout” style oriented event that will feature soul artists including double-platinum artists 112.

“We are beyond thrilled with the support the festival has received,” organizers said in the release.

Traditionally, Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the day in 1865 that a Union general told the residents of Galveston, Texas, that the Civil War — and slavery — had ended.

The multi-day celebration will officially kick off on June 18 with the R&B Summer Kick Off at Levitt Pavilion at Ruby Park. The following day, there will be a parade and street festival across the Five Points neighborhood.

Additionally, live music performances, celebrations, food and other events will continue throughout the 20th.

Tickets for the R&B Summer Kick Off are on sale now and for more information head to www.juneteenthmusicfestival.com
