Green Mountain Campground closed until Friday following alleged bear attack
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officials are currently investigating an alleged bear attack at Green Mountain Campground. As a precaution, the campground is closed until Friday.
Park officials became aware of the alleged incident on Monday through a secondary source who told officials a bear allegedly attacked a man, while he was in his tent Sunday night, said Jason Clay, a spokesperson for CPW.
Later in the day, officials successfully got in touch with the alleged victim to inquire additional information.
Park officers have searched the area and found no indication of a bear and as a result are investigating the incident as an alleged attack, said Travis Duncan, a spokesperson for the state park agency
“(Our officers) have not found any credible evidence that this actually happened,” Duncan told The Denver Gazette.
Additionally, there were no reports or bear sightings made to CPW in the immediate area prior to the alleged attack, Clay said.
Following the campground’s reopening on Friday, officials will continue to monitor bear activity in the area.
