Injured climber rescued after falling 30 feet down Boulder Flatiron
A man was rescued Wednesday morning after falling 30 feet while climbing the Second Flatiron, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
Deputies said the 31-year-old climber was on the Dodge Block climbing route at 8:45 a.m. when one of his handholds dislodged from the rock, causing him to fall down the face of the Second Flatiron in Chautauqua Park.
The man sustained several injuries during the fall, including a serious injury to his ankle that left him unable to walk, officials said.
Teams from Boulder Fire Rescue, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks responded and provided medical assistance, according to the release.
Once the man’s ankle was splinted and he was in stable condition, the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group put him into a rescue basket and carried him to the trailhead, officials said. American Medical Response evaluated the man and offered to take him to a hospital, but he refused, leaving the scene in a private vehicle, deputies said.
