Greeley man gets 20 years in prison for shooting at, driving into ex-girlfriend’s friends
A Greeley man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for attacking his ex-girlfriend’s friends by shooting at them and ramming into their car, the Weld County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.
Angel Casas-Martinez, who was 20 at the time of the attack, pleaded guilty in February to first-degree assault and harassment as an act of domestic violence.
The attack happened on Jan. 13, 2019, the district attorney’s office said. The victims called 911 and reported they were in a car being chased through Greeley by a yellow Hummer driven by Casas-Martinez.
Casas-Martinez rammed into the victims’ car several times, eventually forcing the car to a stop in a nearby grassy area. When the car stopped, Casas-Martinez fired a gunshot into it, though he didn’t hit any of the victims.
The victims later told police that Casas-Martinez had been calling and texting his ex-girlfriend all night leading to the attack.
Casas-Martinez was waiting outside of the ex-girlfriend’s apartment when her friends dropped her off. He then followed the friends and began the assault, the district attorney’s office said.
Casas-Martinez will serve his 20-year sentence in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
