Tay Anderson ‘looks forward to defending himself’ after new sex assault allegations
An attorney for Denver school board member Tay Anderson said his client “categorically denies” new sexual assault allegations lodged against him last week.
Last Tuesday, a Denver schools parent testified at a state legislative committee hearing that a more than 60 students had come to her with claims of sexual assault, triggering an investigation ordered by the district’s board. Anderson has temporarily recused himself from the school panel amid the probe.
Chris Decker, Anderson’s attorney, released a statement Monday afternoon on behalf of his client to The Denver Gazette:
“Director Anderson categorically denies the most recent allegations which have been made against him. He looks forward to defending himself from these false claims just as soon as they emerge from anonymity into the light of fair investigation. To date, not a single allegation against Director Anderson has provided any time, place, individual, or details to which he can even respond. When and if this occurs, he will respond with specifics and corroborating evidence.”
In the statement, Decker said his client hasn’t been questioned or contacted by police about the allegations.
“These acts never happened. Not a single child, parent, therapist, teacher, police officer, doctor, or individual has come forth to substantiated these incredible assertions,” Decker said.
Anderson was first accused of sexual misconduct in March by BlackLivesMatter5280, based on the account of an unnamed woman who came forward the month before and asked for a public apology from the school board director and that he seek help.
Officials with the Denver Police Department have said officers contacted the parent, Mary-Katherine Brooks Fleming, regarding the latest allegations, but said no one has come forward to report the alleged assaults.
“If someone is a victim, we encourage them to contact Denver Police,” the agency said Saturday.
In response to the initial allegations, the school board hired Investigations Law Group of Denver to conduct an investigation.
Anyone who may have relevant information may contact the investigators by email at [email protected].
Decker said Anderson is confident investigators will clear his name.
“All he asks for is a fair, responsible, and thorough investigation,” Decker said in a statement. “He knows this will exonerate him. He continues to cooperate with the private investigation … and will cooperate with any criminal investigation which may be underway.”
