Golden PD announced all officers now wear body cameras

The Golden Police Department announced Friday that all 52 officers in the department will now be equipped with body worn cameras.

The department reached an agreement with Axon Enterprise Inc., for a 10 year $934,269.09 contract for the equipment and services, which includes data collection and storage.

Officers are required to activate the cameras when responding to calls for service or any interaction with the public initiated by an officer, whether voluntary or involuntary or for the purpose of enforcing the law, according to a release from the police department.

Additionally, the cameras will automatically activate if a taser or handgun is pulled from an officer’s holster.

“Studies across the nation have shown that the presence of BWC’s strengthens accountability and assists in escalating conflicts between police and members of the community,” the release read. “The department is seeking to enhance our high level of community trust by providing this technology to our members.”
