A man was killed Monday night after he has hit by a vehicle on Interstate 76, the Wheat Ridge Police Department announced.

Police said the collision happened at 9:15 p.m. on eastbound I-76 near Marshall Street.

The man was walking on the side of the interstate when a passing vehicle struck him, causing fatal injuries, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle stayed to call for help and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. No arrests or criminal charges have been announced as of Tuesday.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office after his family has been notified, police said.
