Denver weather: Temperatures approach triple digits all week

Monday is expected to see near-record heat in the Denver metro area, ushering in a stretch of temperatures near 100 degrees, the National Weather Service in Boulder said.

Temperatures are likely to reach 99 degrees, approaching the record high for June 14 of 102 degrees set in 2006, the agency said.

Aside from heat, Monday’s forecast includes sunny skies and light breezes between 5 and 8 mph, the weather service said.

Overnight skies are expected to be mostly clear with a low of 64 degrees and mild winds around 6 mph, the agency said.

Tuesday will likely start a trend of sunny days with late afternoon rain and thunderstorms for the week. Temperatures are forecast to bounce between the 80s to 100s all week, the weather service said.

Here’s an extended forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100 degrees. Calm winds between 5 to 7 mph with gusts up to 17 mph. A 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 100 degrees. Calm wind between 5 to 9 mph with gusts up to 18 mph. A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.

Thursday: Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 98 degrees. A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 88 degrees. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.
