Denver weather: Ongoing heat wave to bring record-breaking temperatures

Forecasters predict temperatures will surpass the record high in Denver on Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Boulder said.

Tuesday could reach 100 degrees — 3 degrees above the 1993 record of 97 degrees for June 15, the agency said.

It would also be the first 100-degree day in Denver this year. Monday’s high was 98 degrees.

Overnight lows sink to 67 degrees with light breezes similar to the daytime, the weather service said.

Wednesday and Thursday are also forecast to break heat records, but late afternoon showers could help temperatures cool down. Thunderstorms and showers are forecast the rest of the week in the afternoons.

Here’s an extended forecast from the National Weather Service:

Wednesday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 100 degrees and winds between 5 to 9 mph with gusts up to 15 mph. A slight chance of showers between noon and 3 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 98 degrees and light winds between 5 to 8 mph with gusts up to 21 mph. A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87 degrees. A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 91 degrees. A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.
