A suspect is in custody after a man was fatally stabbed in Lakewood Thursday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a man lying in the sidewalk with a stab wound at the intersection of West Colfax Avenue and Ingalls Street just before 3 p.m., according to a release from the Lakewood Police Department.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was found unconscious and unresponsive and was pronounced dead on-scene.

Shortly thereafter, investigators tracked down a man and took him into custody. The suspect’s identity has not been released at this time, according to the release.

Police believe the man in custody was the only person involved in the stabbing.
