Officials are investigating after an inmate in the Jefferson County Sheriff’s detention facility was found dead Monday, the sheriff’s office announced.

Deputies said 29-year-old Abby Angelo was found unresponsive in her cell Monday afternoon during a scheduled cell check.

Lifesaving efforts were immediately initiated by deputies and medical staff without effect, deputies said.

Angelo’s cause of death is currently unknown but will be released by the coroner’s office following an autopsy.

Angelo had only been in the detention facility for nine days before her death, deputies said. Deputies have not released why Angelo was in custody.

The sheriff’s office launched an investigation into the death. No additional information is available at this time.
