Temperatures reached triple digits for the fourth time this year in Denver, but still fell one degree short of the daily record.
Denver International Airport — the official station for Denver — recorded 102 degrees, which was just shy of the 32-year-old record of 103 for July 8, said Chad Gimmestad, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder.
The fourth triple-digit day puts 2021 in fifth place for the most 100-degree days in Denver, according to Weather5280.
Weather service warns of Colorado high country flooding amid storms
The Mile High City has a chance to break into triple-digits again on Friday. The current forecast projects a high of 99 degrees, which is one degree higher than the daily record, said Gimmestad.
Scattered storms could appear around the metro area with wind gusts reaching 40 to 50 mph, said Gimmestad.
But the hot weather won’t stick around for long as temperatures are projected to drop back into the more seasonable low to mid 80’s on Saturday.
