The crash happened at the intersection of Parker and East Orchard roads in Centennial about 1:40 p.m. when the fire engine was responding to a house fire, department spokesman Eric Hurst said. Two people who were inside a white sedan involved in the crash were unharmed, he said.
At the time of the collision, the fire engine had its light and sirens on, Hurst said.
Officials from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office are investigating. An internal South Metro investigation into the crash has also begun with a supervisor and fire investigators documenting the scene and gathering statements from the staff member, other parties and any witnesses.
“If the driver is not at fault then nothing happens, if they are found at fault there could be disciplinary actions that could occur,” Hurst said.
