Rumors flow of Nancy Pelosi purchasing $25 million Florida mansion

The internet is buzzing with rumors that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is purchasing a $25 million mansion on Florida’s Atlantic coast, just 25 miles from former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.

Pelosi, one of the richest members of Congress, reportedly owns nine properties worth a combined total of more than $20 million already. But if she picks up the 10,000-square-foot beachfront property on prestigious Jupiter Island, it would give the speaker a big presence in a state led by defiant Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Several south Florida Twitter users say they have sources confirming that Pelosi is in fact buying the house, which is listed for sale on several real estate sites. Local property tax records list the home as having last changed hands in 2015 and still list that buyer as the current owner. But Zillow and other listing services state that a sale is “pending.”

The Washington Examiner has reached out to Pelosi’s office seeking comment.

The house last sold for $14.4 million six years ago and is listed for sale at $25 million. With six bedrooms, at least 7.5 bathrooms, a fountain, pool, and elevator, the 2021 property tax bill was $218,814, and estimated monthly mortgage payments are in the $115,000 neighborhood.

Pelosi would be in good company if she does move in or stop by for vacations. Jupiter Island is one of the most prestigious locations in the United States, with past and present residents including but not limited to Alan Jackson, Celine Dion, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods.

With Pelosi turning 82 next March, the real estate play is fueling retirement speculation as Democrats look toward who will lead them in the House going forward. Pelosi would lose the speakership if Republicans retake the House majority in next year’s elections.

Like California, Florida enjoys the benefits of an extremely long coastline. But it’s also becoming known as a red state boasting lower taxes and significantly fewer COVID-19 restrictions thanks to the actions of DeSantis. The irony was not lost on the Twitterati.

As House speaker, Pelosi earns $223,500 annually. But her husband, Paul Pelosi, owns a San Francisco-based investment firm and is the major reason for her estimated $106 million net worth.

Among the most prominent commenters on Pelosi’s potential Sunshine State snag is controversial Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was stripped of her committee assignments in February. Greene has a long history of attacking Pelosi.

Greene posted on Twitter that she was on the same plane with Pelosi as the speaker embarked on a house-hunting trip to Florida earlier this month and posted again as the mansion rumors flared.

“Obviously she isn’t concerned about rising sea levels from climate change as the ‘greatest threat we are facing.’ But she clearly sees the real threat of the new astronomical taxes she rammed through in the [Build Back Better] bill as a good reason to hide wealth in Florida,” Greene tweeted. “And FLA is free.”
