Woman wounded, man arrested in Aurora shooting
Aurora police on Sunday arrested a man in connection with a shooting that wounded a woman in the Sable Ridge neighborhood.
Police said the shooting happened at around 12:50 a.m. Sunday in the 14000 block of East Iowa Drive, near the Florida Station Apartment Complex and Gateway High School.
The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound and taken to a hospital. She is expected to survive, police said.
Officers detained a person of interest at the crime scene. Less than 12 hours later, police announced they had arrested the suspect, 52-year-old Fernando Magana-Plancarte, on suspicion of first-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
Initially, police incorrectly identified the suspect as 49-year-old Fernando Magana, a Littleton resident previously arrested for third-degree assault, false imprisonment and violating a restraining order, according to public records.
Police have not released any additional details about the shooting or how they identified Magana-Plancarte as the suspect. Police said Magana-Plancarte was friends with the victim. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
