Freight train derails in Denver, sends several train cars into the river

A freight train derailed Saturday morning in Denver, sending some of its cars into the South Platte River, according to BNSF Railway.

Seven empty lumber cars derailed while the train was leaving the Denver rail facility at 7 a.m., said Lena Kent, a spokeswoman for the railway in an email statement to The Denver Gazette.
Three of the cars tumbled down into the South Platte River, Kent said.
No one was injured. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
