Fires broke out and explosions were heard at oil storage facilities in Russia on Sunday, about 80 miles from the Ukrainian border.

One fire reportedly occurred at the Druzhba Oil Depot in Bryansk, Russia, located north of Ukraine’s Sumy region. The second fire broke out at a nearby facility in Bryansk. A Russian military base is reportedly located near the site of the fires. Russian media and authorities have confirmed only one fire at an oil storage facility in Bryansk and have not given a cause for the blaze.

“The Emergency Situations Ministry has confirmed there’s a fire,” the Bryansk Region government

press office said. “There’s also a confirmation that it’s the fuel tanks.”

The fire was first reported to authorities at 2 a.m. Moscow time. No injuries have been reported.

Several purported videos of the fires in Bryansk were shared on social media. The Druzhba facility is reportedly near residential areas of Bryansk.

Two substantial plumes of smoke were visible rising into the sky as morning broke in Bryansk.

On April 1, Russian officials accused Ukraine of using helicopters to attack a fuel depot in Russia’s Belgorod region, causing a massive fire. The alleged airstrike occurred just 25 miles from the Ukrainian border.

The Ukrainian armed forces did not claim responsibility for the Belgorod attack.

Last week, Russia’s largest chemical plant erupted in flames hours after a fire engulfed a military research center outside of Moscow, killing seven people.

Russian state media reported that preliminary findings point to faulty electrical wiring for the military facility inferno. No cause has been given for the chemical plant fire.
