The City of Lakewood canceled its Fourth of July Big Boom Bash fireworks display scheduled for July 2 due to fire risk and drought conditions.
The decision to cancel came from West Metro Fire Rescue’s recommendation, a news release from the city said. Lakewood is exploring other options to celebrate Independence Day with the community.
All fireworks are illegal in Lakewood, including sparklers, Roman candles and smoke bombs, with fines reaching $2,650.
