Homicide investigation underway after 2 bodies found in Phantom Canyon

Officers from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office say a double homicide investigation is underway after a man and a woman were found deceased in Fremont County on July 16.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of two deceased persons near mile marker 8 of Fremont County Road 67. 

The bodies were located on Bureau of Land Management property and that agency was notified, later requesting assistance from the sheriff’s office. 

Investigators were able to determine the deaths were suspicious, and the area was declared a crime scene. both victims were from out of state and the coroner’s office is attempting to locate relatives of the victims. 

This is an active investigation. Further details will be made public as appropriate.
