Stacey Abrams tests positive for COVID-19

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams has tested positive for COVID-19.

The diagnosis will keep Abrams off the campaign trail for a brief period of time, she said in a tweet Wednesday.

“This morning I took my daily COVID test and tested positive for COVID-19. Before my speech yesterday, I tested negative. Today I’m experiencing mild symptoms, and I’m grateful to have been vaccinated and boosted,” Abrams said.

“I’ll be spending the next few days at home, meeting with folks by Zoom and by phone, working hard to win this race for all Georgians,” she said. “I look forward to getting back on the road and meeting folks across Georgia soon.”

Abrams is again running to unseat Gov. Brian Kemp after losing to the Republican in the 2018 gubernatorial election.

A poll commissioned by the Kemp campaign in early July showed Kemp leading with 50% support ahead of Abrams’s 45%. The survey was conducted among 1,200 likely general election voters and had a margin of error of around 2.6 percentage points, according to Newsweek.
