A Commerce City boy reported missing since Monday has returned home, according to an Adams 14 School District administrator. 

Emmanuel Melgar was reported missing from Adams City High School on Monday after police responded to a report of a gun on the campus. In an initial release, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said he may have been scared off by the response. 

According to Jeff McCanna, the Adams 14 School District chief of Human Resources and Talent Management, Melgar returned home Wednesday.

“Earlier today, we were working and talking with kiddos, his friends, trying to track him down,” McCanna said. “He called home and is safe in the custody of his parents.” 

This occurred while the district was dealing with the closure of Adams City High School Wednesday due to threats of violence. The school will reopen Thursday after police determined the threats to be unfounded.

According to a CBI release, Melgar has “walked away” in the past, but would come back shortly after. Friends and family on Facebook described him as being on the autistic spectrum but “high functioning.” 

Members of Melgar’s family were contacted for comment, but did not immediately respond.
