Harrowing footage shows train colliding with Colorado police vehicle

Terrifying body camera footage shows the moment a train smashed into a Colorado police vehicle that had been perched on railroad tracks with a suspect inside.

Officers were seen investigating a road rage incident, which took place last Friday, and had a handcuffed 20-year-old woman in the back of the vehicle when a loud raucous of train horns could be heard suddenly in the distance. The officers scrambled to get out of the way, but the suspect was left inside the patrol car.

“Within a matter of seconds, the Platteville’s police vehicle, which contained the female detainee, was struck by a northbound train,” said the Fort Lupton Police Department, which is investigating the matter, in a statement.

“Fort Lupton Officers immediately summoned medical assistance and began life-sustaining measures,” the department added.

The police car that got struck by the train originated from the Platteville Police Department, but two additional officers from the Fort Lupton Police Department later arrived on the scene.

The suspect, Yareni Rios-Gonzalez, was hospitalized with severe injuries, but she is expected to survive.

Responding officers were looking for a truck linked to the road rage incident that reportedly involved a firearm. After finding the truck, they directed Rios-Gonzalez, the driver, to pull over. The officers were checking Rios-Gonzalez’s vehicle shortly before the patrol car was struck.

She pulled her vehicle over just past the railroad tracks, which led to a Platteville officer parking the vehicle just behind her, which happened to be on top of the tracks. Authorities suspected she engaged in felony menacing during the road rage incident, according to FOX 31.
