Longmont resident competes on Jeopardy Wednesday

What is the City of Longmont?

That’s correct if the Jeopardy answer was: This Colorado city has had two Jeopardy contestants in the past eight years.

Data scientist Stephen Webb of Longmont competed on the popular game show Wednesday evening on KDVR-TV (FOX). The show is famous for presenting the answer to contestants, who must then guess the question.

Webb had a good first round, as he won $38,401. The final Jeopardy “answer” was: “Losses over Asia in the 1960s led to the establishment of the program know as this at San Diego Naval Base in 1969.”

He answered correctly: “What is Top Gun.”

Webb, a PhD, works for an expense management and AP needs company called Emburse.

His LinkedIN profile, which he gave permission for the Denver Gazette to quote, says he’s “A recovering computational physicist with a strong background in predictive modeling, statistical analysis, applied mathematics, and technical project management.”

Webb set up a Facebook page for friends and relatives to follow his progress.

Eight years ago this week, Longmont produced a grand prize winner on “America’s favorite quiz show.”

On Feb. 14, 2015, 38-year-old Jennifer Giles, a third-grade bilingual education teacher at Columbine Elementary School in Longmont, won the grand prize of $100,000 against 14 other teachers and earned an automatic spot in the “Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions” that year.
