Las Vegas police engaged in standoff with man at Caesars Palace hotel

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and SWAT are engaged in a standoff with a man who has barricaded himself inside a hotel room at Caesars Palace.

Investigators said during a press conference that the floor where the hotel room is located has been locked down and that a man and a woman are believed to be in the room.

Crisis negotiators are speaking with the man. He refused to leave the room and said he was armed. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Bureau Commander Stephen Connell said the woman was pulled into the room and is being held hostage by the man.

“She is still in the room at this time. The female has been heard from and is still OK,” Connell said.

Officers responded to the Caesars Palace hotel at around 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday after receiving a domestic disturbance call. Videos show that a window to the room was broken, and objects were being thrown out of it.

Though the man said he was armed, Connell said no shots have been fired by either the police or the suspect at this point.

“We are aware of the security incident at Caesars Palace. Our team is cooperating fully with law enforcement officers on scene who are handling the investigation,” Caesars Entertainment said in a statement.

Hotel guest Brooke Cantrell, who was in the swimming pool, told 8 News Now that she saw someone throw what looked like a chair from an upstairs hotel room through a window, breaking it. Cantrell said the police evacuated the pool area, which Connell confirmed.
