Longmont police arrest man in hit-and-run that severely injured pedestrian
The incident occurred early Friday morning
Longmont police arrested a driver who hit and severely injured a pedestrian Friday morning, then fled. He later turned himself in.
A yellow Jeep Wrangler struck a pedestrian walking through a crosswalk at Main Street and 9th Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Friday, according to a press release by the Longmont Public Safety Department. The Jeep then travelled south on Main to 9th, 9th to Weld County Road 1 and then south on Weld County Road 1 at Highway 119.
The male victim was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
The Jeep was described as two-door and yellow with a black top and chrome wheels. There is a chrome spare tire mounted on the rear of the vehicle, according to the release.
After releasing photos of the Jeep to ask for the public’s help, the suspect turned himself in to Longmont police around 3 p.m. Friday.
Ramon Mosqueda Lara, 61, of Longmont, faces charges of careless driving, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, and failing to notify police of the crash.
“Ramon stated he was driving the suspect Jeep turning off 9th Avenue onto Main Street when he struck a person walking in the cross walk,” according to the arrest affidavit. Ramon stated he freaked out and drove off, headed to work.”
