Boulder Police Department evacuated an area in the 4500 block of 13 Street Wednesday due to both a death and suspicious devices.
Officers responded to a death in the north Boulder area around 11:30 a.m. They also found a “suspicious device,” leading police to begin evacuating surrounding units, according to a social media post by the department.
The department noted to stay away from the area until the situation is cleared. Two blocks between 14th Street and Broadway are shut down. Explosive detection investigators are on scene as officers simultaneously investigate the death.
BPD said that officers responded to a wellness check at an apartment in the area of 14th at Yarmouth Avenue. Upon arrival, investigators found a deceased person and the suspicious object.
Officers left immediately and began evacuating the nearby area. Boulder Fire Rescue and the county bomb squad were called in to investigate. Investigation of the deceased person will continue after the object has been identified and safely removed, BPD said.
In a following post, BDP said they had found more suspicious items and expanded the shutdown to the area of 4580 13th Street. Officers have shut down 13th Street between Yarmouth Avenue and Rosewood Avenue.
Just after 5 p.m., Boulder police lifted the evacuation order and said the suspicious devices were “non-hazardous.”
“However the death investigation in the one apartment remains ongoing,” according to a BPD social media post.
