A motorcyclist died on Tuesday in Fort Collins following a crash with an SUV.

Fort Collins police are investigating the crash that occurred in the area of Windmill Drive and West Horsetooth Road around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a press release from the city. The man who was driving the motorcycle was found in the eastbound lane of W. Horsetooth Road. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the man passed away at the scene.

The crash investigation found that a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee was going southbound on Windmill Drive and had stopped at a stop sign. The Jeep began making a left-hand turn onto Horsetooth and collided with a westbound 2008 Honda CBR600 motorcycle.

Horsetooth Road was closed in between S. Shields Street and Manhattan Avenue for five hours during the investigation. 

“We ask all motorists to obey traffic regulations to hopefully reduce the number of these heart wrenching cases,” Sergeant Mike Avrech, Fort Collins Police CRASH Team, said.

The name of the motorcyclist who died was not immediately released.
