Officer shoots and kills suspect during Silverthorne chase
Suspect was allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle
A police officer shot and killed an armed suspect after an attempted vehicle theft from a Silverthorne parking lot.
Dillon and Silverthorne police officers responded to a report of a car theft in progress at the Summit Place Shopping Center around 8 p.m. on Monday, according to a news release from the Silverthorne Police Department.
The suspect began to run when police arrived and a Silverthorne officer ran after him. Police said he tried to car-jack multiple vehicles near Colorado Highway 6 but failed to do so. He continued on foot.
The suspect was allegedly armed, though the type of weapon has not been identified. He allegedly discharged the weapon during the pursuit, according to a Thursday news release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. No civilian or officer was injured.
The officer shot and killed the suspect, according to the release.
Summit County Coroner Amber Flenniken identified the suspect as 27-year-old Connor Hart, according to a Colorado Bureau of Investigation news release.
“The Silverthorne Police Officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation is completed, per standard practice,” according to the release.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the incident. The case information will be presented to District Attorney Heidi McCollum of the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office after the investigation.
