Aurora man dies in Hawaii from possible drowning

A man from Aurora died from a possible drowning at a beach in Kona, Hawaii on Tuesday.
Hawaii police responded to a report of a distressed swimmer at a beach around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a press release by the Hawaii Police Department. Witnesses told police that a man was walking on a rocky area near the shore and was struck by a wave, knocking him onto the rocks and pulling him into the ocean. Witnesses said he attempted to climb onto the rocks but was hit with a second wave, pulling him further into the water.
Emergency responders were able to locate the man offshore, but he appeared lifeless, according to the release. He was sent to a nearby hospital and later died.
Police later identified the man as 53-year-old Jeffrey Jewers from Aurora.
The department ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
