Denver’s original brewery Wynkoop Brewing Co. is turning 35 years old
To celebrate, the brewery collaborated with four other brewers to create special-edition beers
Denver’s first brewpub, Wynkoop Brewing Co., is celebrating 35 years this month, and is celebrating by offering beer lovers a handful of specials this weekend.
From Thursday to Sunday, Wynkoop will be serving $3.50 Wynkoop beers and $20 four-part Flight and Bite pairings, featuring birthday-exclusive new school beer collaborations and older pub favorites.
The brewery has a unique history too. It is housed in J.S. Brown Mercantile Building across Wynkoop Street from Union Station in the heart of the Lower Downtown neighborhood.
In 1868, John Sidney Brown was among the men who broke ground for the railroad in Denver. Brown was a strong advocate and key person in bringing the railroad to Denver. Brown lobbied and raised money until the completion of Union Station 13 years later.

Current U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper, a geologist before becoming a politician, started the brewery in 1988. Over that 35-year span, Wynkoop has helped transform Colorado’s craft beer industry, brewing handcrafted beer in the basement brewery underneath Denver’s largest pool hall.
Classic favorites such as the ‘Rail Yard Ale’ and ‘Lodo Style IPA’ are offered.
35th Anniversary Collaborations
For the brewery’s 35th birthday, it collaborated with four different Colorado breweries to make four unique beers, being released Friday.
- Sticke Alt – Altbier from Burns Family Artisan Ales
- Italian Pilsner – Pilsner, Italian from Crooked Stave
- Artilery Imperial Brown On Amburana – Brown Ale, Imperial from Phantom Canyon Brewing Co.
- Bananas Foster Dunkelweizen – Wheat Beer, Dunkelweizen from Great Divide Brewing Co.
“Whether a loyal regular or a brand-new customer, all are encouraged to come in through October 19th to 22nd to celebrate the iconic brewpub’s 35th birthday with some delicious bites and beers,” the Wynkoop team said in a release regarding the celebration.
Wynkoop Brewing is open daily from 11 a.m.
