Here’s what you need to know ahead of the 29th annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races

The 29th installment of the annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races in Manitou Springs is set for Oct. 28, and town officials are announcing upcoming road closures and detours for the festivities.

Town officials are asking motorists to avoid Manitou Springs streets on that Saturday 9 a.m.-3 p.m., for the duration of the spooky celebration.

Road closures include:

9 a.m.-noon. Manitou Avenue will be closed from Old Mans Trail to the Ruxton Roundabout, and side streets  will be closed one block before they intersect with Manitou Avenue.

9 a.m.-3 p.m. Manitou Avenue will be closed from El Paso Boulevard to the Ruxton Roundabout. Eastbound traffic will be available on Pawnee Avenue, Deer Path Avenue and S Path. Westbound traffic lanes will be available on Lovers Lane and El Paso Boulevard.

Parking, getting to the event

Patrons may park free at the DMV parking structure at 1675 Garden of the Gods Road. Shuttles will run continuously 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The cost is $5 per round trip, and attendees under 12 ride free, officials said.

A free shuttle also will be available through Old Mans Trail to Columbia Avenue, on both El Paso County Boulevard and Manitou Avenue.

PikeRide will host a bicycle valet at Memorial Park in Manitou Springs through 6 p.m.

“If a PikeRide bike is taken to the valet, the ride will be free and a free ticket will be given for a ride back,” Manitou Springs officials said.

Country star Jason Aldean to perform in Colorado Springs

Users also will be given a free drink ticket for the Coffin Race after-party.

The rideshare drop-off and pick-up zone will be at the old Chase Bank location at 484 Manitou Ave.

Parking spaces at two locations, 202 Manitou Ave. and 339 Manitou Ave., also are available via reservation.

“These spots fill up quickly, so sign up soon,” officials said.
