Aurora man sentenced to 37 years for brother’s murder
Jimmy Lee Churchill, 34, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his brother
Jimmy Lee Churchill, 34, will spend nearly 40 years in prison for murdering his brother Deshawn Hunter, 47, who was found shot to death at a Radiant Inn in Aurora in 2022.
Churchill was sentenced to 37 years in prison for second-degree murder, which he pleaded guilty to in August in Arapahoe County District Court.
He also pleaded guilty to a sentence enhancer for using a weapon during a violent crime.
At around 4:30 a.m. on March 28, 2022, Aurora Police officers responded to a report of shots fired inside a room at the Radiant Inn located at East Colfax Avenue and Joliet Street. Police said they found Hunter shot to death.
Police later arrested Churchill in connection to his brother’s fatal shooting. Churchill initially faced a charge of first-degree murder, as well as other charges; however, after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and the violent crime charge, all other charges were dismissed as part of the deal.
