Movie rundown for the weekend through Oct. 29

OPENING

“After Death” — (Documentary, PG-13, 103 minutes). Explores real near-death experiences with input from authors, medical experts, scientists and survivors.

“Five Nights at Freddy’s” — (Horror, PG-13, 110 minutes). During his first night on the job, a security guard learns what really happened at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

“Freelance” — (Action, R, 109 minutes). A military coup breaks out while an ex-special forces operator is acting as security for a journalist who is interviewing a dictator and all three must escape into the jungle.

”The Holdovers” Early Access Screening — (Comedy, R, 133 minutes). A cranky teacher at a prep school has to stay on campus for the holidays with a troubled student who has no place to go.

“Inspector Sun” — (Animation, PG, 88 minutes). When Dr. Spindlethorp’s life is threatened, Inspector Sun must find the culprit before it’s too late.

“The Killer” — (Action, R, 118 minutes). After a near-miss, an assassin fights with his employers on an international manhunt.

“Miracle in East Texas” — (Drama, PG, 100 minutes). During the Great Depression, two con men try to convince a group of widows to invest oil wells with no value.

“Suitable Flesh” — (Horror, not rated, 111 minutes). Psychiatrist Elizabeth Derby is drawn into a dark occult when she tries to help a young patient suffering from personality disorder.

ONGOING

“A Haunting in Venice” — (Drama, PG-13, 103 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. Now a retired detective and living in self-imposed exile in Venice, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance and when one of the guests is murdered, it is up to him to find the killer.

“Anatomy of a Fall” — (Crime, R, 152 minutes). Being the sole witness to a murder, a blind son faces a moral dilemma when his mom is blamed for his father’s death.

“Barbie” — (Adventure, PG-13, 114 minutes). Grade: A, Katie Walsh. After suffering a crisis, Barbie starts questioning her world and her existence.

“Bhagavanth Kesari” — (Action, not rated, 130 minutes). A man squares off with a powerful businessman who cost him money.

“The Creator” — (Action, PG-13, 133 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. In the middle of a war between the human race and robots with artificial intelligence, an ex-special forces agent is given the task to find and destroy the secret weapon that can destroy all mankind.

“Dicks: The Musical” — (Comedy, R, 86 minutes). After two business rivals discover they are long-lost identical twins, they come up with a tricky plan to get their divorced parents back together.

“Dumb Money” — (Comedy, R, 105 minutes). Based on the true story about the people who got rich by turning the store GameStop into one of the hottest companies on Wall Street.

“The Exorcist: Believer” — (Horror, R, 121 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. Two girls, who disappeared into the woods and had no memory of what happened when they returned three days later, show signs of demonic possession.

“Foe” — (Drama, R, 111 minutes). Hen and Junior’s quiet lives are thrown into turmoil when a stranger shows up on a secluded piece of land they farm with a startling proposal.

“It Lives Inside” — (Drama, PG-13, 99 minutes). After having a falling out with her best friend, an Indian American teenager who is struggling with her cultural identity unknowingly releases a demon that feeds on her loneliness.

“Joan Baez I am Noise” — (Documentary, not rated, 113 minutes). A look into the career and life of folk singer Joan Baez.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” — (Crime, R, 207 minutes). Grade: A, Katie Walsh. Based on the David Grann bestseller, the story tells of what came to be known as the Reign of Terror, depicting the 1920s murders of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation.

“Leo: Bloody Sweet” — (Action, not rated, 159 minutes). After becoming a local hero through an act of violence, a cafe owner’s life is shaken when repercussions start happening that are connected to an old life he left behind.

“The Nightmare Before Christmas” 30th Anniversary — (Animation, PG, 76 minutes). Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s pumpkin king, tries to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa and taking over his role.

“The Nun II” — (Horror, R, 111 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. Sister Irene again comes face to face with a demon nun after a priest is murdered and evil begins to spread.

“Nyad” — (Biography, PG-13, 121 minutes). At 60 years old, Diana Nyad is determined to achieve her life-long dream of completing a 110-mile open swim from Cuba to Florida.

“The Other Zoey” — (Comedy, PG-13, 91 minutes). Zoey Miller, a smart computer nerd, has her life turned upside down when the school’s soccer star Zack gets amnesia and begins to think that Zoey is his girlfriend.

“PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie” — (Animation, PG, 92 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. The PAW Patrol pups are given superpowers, turning them into the Mighty Pups, when a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City.

“The Royal Hotel” — (Thriller, not rated, 91 minutes). When American backpackers get jobs at a remote pub in Australia, they are confronted by unruly locals and the situation grows out of their control.

“Saw X” — (Horror, R, 118 minutes). John discovers that the risky and experimental procedure to cure his cancer that he traveled to Mexico for is a scam to defraud the vulnerable.

“Soul Mates” — (Horror, R, 95 minutes). Jason and Allison become participants in a new dating service where they are put inside a nightmarish maze.

“Spirited Away” Studio Ghibli Fest 2023 — (Animation, PG, 125 minutes). A young girl gets trapped in a bath house by spirits, the same spirits who took her parents into the spirit world. Now she must find a way to save her parents and return to the human world.

“Stop Making Sense” (2023) — (Music, PG, 88 minutes). Grade: A, Moira MacDonald. This restoration for the film’s 40th anniversary presents the Talking Heads’ 1983 concert at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater.

“Suzume” — (Animation, PG, 122 minutes). Suzume and a mysterious young man must close all the doors open in Japan that are letting in disasters from the other side.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” — (Music, PG-13, 168 minutes). A cinematic view of Taylor Swift’s history-making tour.

“When Evil Lurks” — (Horror, not rated, 99 minutes). Residents of a small rural town are desperate to escape before a demon is born in their town, but it may be too late.
