Enjoy the warmer temperatures Monday and Tuesday around metro Denver. A snowy change is in the forecast for mid-week.

Denver residents can expect mostly sunny skies Monday with a high near 73, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. A south wind is forecast to blow between 7 to 10 mph, becoming west in the afternoon with winds gusting as high as 16 mph.

Warm and dry conditions will lead to elevated fire weather conditions this afternoon, especially across the Palmer Divide, according to the NWS. Wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible across the Front Range mountains and higher foothills today, and should continue through the overnight hours.

Monday night is forecast to be partly cloudy, with a low around 44. South wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

In 1991: Strong westerly chinook winds blew into metro Denver, and gusts reached up to 88 mph at Rollinsville and to 51 mph in Boulder. Later, northeast winds with gusts of 30 to 40 mph were common across all of metro Denver behind a cold front, which produced only 0.2 inch of snowfall at Stapleton International Airport.
