Three men found dead in home after Adams County shooting
Initial investigations show the incident was a family dispute
Editor’s note: The Adams County Sheriff’s office corrected the number of shooting victims to three Wednesday morning, after originally reporting four.
Adams County Sheriff’s deputies found three men dead inside of a home on Tuesday evening. Initial investigations suggest one of the victims died by suicide.
Deputies responded to gunshot reports in the area of 84th Avenue and Franklin Drive around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office told Denver Gazette news partner 9News. A family member of a victim went to the house on Tuesday and found the victim dead. They then called 911.
Responders had to force their way into the home.
When officers searched the home, they found three men dead from gunshot wounds. The two victims are believed to be in their 70s or 80s, and the third man, the suspected shooter, is believed to be in his 40s or 50s.
Deputies found evidence that the shooting may have stemmed from a family dispute, the sheriff’s office told 9News.
A neighbor, Bob, said he hadn’t seen anyone in or out of the home since Sunday. He believed one of the victims was the nephew of the man that lived in the residence.
“They seemed to get along just fine,” he said.
Bob, who declined to provide his last name, also noted that there was an older dog — believed to be a beagle — at the residence. It was taken from the house.
“He’s a good dog. It’s sad. Just because the owner made bad decisions doesn’t mean he should suffer,” Bob added.
Another neighbor noted that there were tons of police and emergency responders when she came home Tuesday evening. They had shut down the whole street. The police presence has since dwindled with only one deputy vehicle on the scene Wednesday morning.
Adams County Sheriff Gene Claps will be unavailable for a press conference on Wednesday, the office told The Denver Gazette. Updates will continue.
