Weekend Broadway closures scheduled for this weekend

Broadway will be closed between Exposition Avenue and Mississippi Avenue Friday and Saturday

Those traveling throughout Washington Park on Friday and Saturday can expect sizeable detours as Denver works on the new Interstate 25 on-ramp from Broadway.

Broadway, between Exposition Avenue and Mississippi Avenue, will be shut down from Friday evening at 7 p.m. until Saturday at 12 p.m. as the Denver Office of Transportation and Infrastructure works on a “travel and safety improvement project,” according to a news release from the city.

Drivers in the area will be asked to follow a marked detour route around the section via Alameda Avenue, University Boulevard and Louisiana Avenue. Drivers are also asked to access I-25 via other streets — like Alameda Avenue, Mississippi Avenue, Santa Fe Drive and University Boulevard.

The improvement project includes adding girders to a new bridge over Broadway that will act as a new I-25 on-ramp, according to the release.

The work is part of a larger project that will include building a new entrance to the RTD Park-n-Ride via a new stretch of Bannock Street, reconstructing Lincoln, Broadway, Kentucky and Ohio to improve traffic flow and extended bike paths on Broadway, according to DOTI.
