Movie rundown for the weekend through Dec. 17

OPENING

“Boys in the Boat” early screening — (Biography, PG-13, 124 minutes). Tells the story of the Depression-era beginnings of the University of Washington’s rowing team to the team’s win of gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

“Christmas with the Chosen: Holy Night” — (Music, not rated, 125 minutes). Experience the birth of Jesus through the eyes of a shepherd boy considered unclean and a young mother labeled impure.

“Poor Thing” — (Drama, R, 141 minutes). After Bella Baxter is brought back to life by scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter, she stands steadfast in her purpose for liberation and equality.

“Seventeen Tour Follow to Japan: Live Viewing” — (Concert, not rated, 210 minutes). Seventeen’s live broadcast from the Fukuoka PayPay Dome in Japan.

“Wonka” — (Adventure, PG, 116 minutes). A poor and young Willy Wonka discovers that the chocolate industry is run by a gang of greedy chocolatiers when he pursues his dream of opening a chocolate shop.

ONGOING

“All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt” — (Drama, PG, 93 minutes). An exploration of one woman’s life in Mississippi.

“Animal” — (Action, not rated, 202 minutes). A son is consumed by vengeance when the bond between he and his father begins to fracture.

“The Boy and the Heron” — (Animation, PG-13, 124 minutes). Grade: A, Katie Walsh. In this semi-autobiographical fantasy from the mind of Hayao Miyazaki, a young boy ventures into a world of the living and the dead.

“The Cello” — (Horror, R, 120 minutes). Musician Nasser must decide if achieving his dream of greatness is worth it when his perfect new cello begins to reveal it’s nefarious past.

“Die Hard” (Rerelease) — (Action, R, 132 minutes). A police officer tries to save his estranged wife and others who were taken hostage by terrorists during a Christmas party.

“Dream Scenario” — (Comedy, R, 102 minutes). A man’s life is turned upside down when strangers start seeing him in their dreams.

“Eileen” — (Drama, R, 97 minutes). Based on the book by Ottessa Moshfegh, a woman’s friendship with a co-worker at the prison facility where they work takes an ominous turn.

“Elf” — (Comedy, PG, 97 minutes). Buddy is a human who was adopted by and raised by elves in the North Pole. After finding out he was adopted, Buddy goes to New York to find his real father who doesn’t know he exists.

“Fallen Leaves” — (Comedy, not rated, 81 minutes). Two lonely people searching for love meet at a karaoke bar, but their path to happiness is filled with obstacles like lost phone numbers, mistaken addresses and a stray dog.

“Godzilla Minus One” — (Action, PG-13, 125 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. After the war ends, Japan faces a new threat by a monster in the form of Godzilla that has the power of the atomic bomb.

“Hi Nanna” — (Drama, not rated, 158 minutes). The lives of a father and his young daughter take a harsh turn when the woman the father loves marries another man.

“The Holdovers” — (Comedy, R, 133 minutes). Grade: A-, Michael Phillips. A cranky teacher at a prep school has to stay on campus for the holidays with a troubled student who has no place to go.

“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” — (Action, PG-13, 157 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. After Coriolanus Snow reluctantly agrees to mentor a tribute for the 10th Hunger Games, he finds that he is developing feelings for the woman from the impoverished District 12.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” — (Drama, PG, 130 minutes). A classic Christmas movie about George Bailey, who wants to commit suicide on Christmas Eve until an angel appears and shows him what life would have been if he never existed.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” — (Crime, R, 207 minutes). Grade: A, Katie Walsh. Based on the David Grann bestseller, the story tells of what came to be known as the Reign of Terror, depicting the 1920s murders of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation.

“Love Actually” 20th Anniversary — (Comedy, R, 135 minutes). Follows the love lives of eight couples during the month before Christmas.

“Maestro” — (Biography, R, 129 minutes). The story of the relationship of Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein.

“The Marvels” — (Action, PG-13, 105 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau must work together to save the universe after all their powers get entangled.

“Napoleon” — (Action, R, 158 minutes). Grade: A-, Katie Walsh. The story of the rise and fall of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and his volatile relationship with his wife.

“The Oath” — (Horror PG-13, 104 minutes). A Hebraic fugitive in 400 A.D. must preserve the history of his nation and rescue the King’s mistress.

“Oppenheimer” — (Biography, R, 180 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. The story of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s role in the development of the atomic bomb.

“The Perfect Christmas” — (Comedy, not rated, 96 minutes). A family experiences pranks, criminal activity and misadventures that may ruin their perfect Christmas.

“Radical” — (Drama, PG-13, 125 minutes). A frustrated teacher in a Mexican town plagued by violence and neglect tries a radial new method to unlock his students’ potential.

“Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” — (Music, not rated, 168 minutes). Follows Beyoncé’s performances during her Renaissance World Tour.

“Saltburn” — (Comedy, R, 127 minutes). A student at Oxford University is invited to his classmate’s family estate and it becomes a summer never to be forgotten.

“The Shift” — (Sci-Fi, PG-13, 115 minutes). After his survival is threatened by the Benefactor, Kevin fights to return back to his world and the woman he loves.

“Silent Night” — (Action, R, 104 minutes). Grade: C-, Katie Walsh. After witnessing his young son’s death from a gang’s crossfire, the grieving father takes revenge on the gang on Christmas Eve.

“Spirited” — (Comedy, PG-13, 127 minutes). Grade: B-, Lindsey Bahr. Join Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds in a musical version of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

“Thanksgiving” — (Horror, R, 107 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. A Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Mass., after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy.

“Trolls Band Together” — (Animation, PG, 92 minutes). While becoming a couple, Poppy finds out that Branch was once part of a boy band with his brothers, Floyd, John Dory, Spruce and Clay. After Floyd is kidnapped, Poppy and Branch try to be reunited with his other brothers and rescue Floyd.

“Wish” — (Animation, PG, 92 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. When Asha makes a wish, a little ball of energy named Star appears and together they must confront the Ruler of Rosas to save the community.
