Whiteout daily snow report, Dec. 15
Beginning today, dry weather with sunny skies and high temperatures in the 30s will be the dominate weather focus for about a week. Luckily the days are short being so close to the winter solstice, allowing for the sun’s rays to bounce off the snow and not melt it much.
The next chance for snow in Colorado comes a few days before Christmas and going into Christmas weekend — Dec. 22-25.
A Weather.us forecast model shows the potential accumulation levels of water-equivalent precipitation as of 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, for Colorado. Depending on the density of the snow, one inch of water is equivalent to 10 inches of snow based on a common rule of thumb ratio of 10:1.
The European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts model on Friday morning shows snow accumulations along the Colorado/New Mexico border, similar to the storm that just passed. This model’s forecast most likely will update throughout the next 10 days, but shows the possibility of a white Christmas for parts of Colorado and potentially fresh snow.
