Sheriff’s deputy injured in shooting, suspect killed in Adams County

An Adams County Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a shooting and a suspect who fired was shot and killed in Sherrelwood Wednesday night, said the sheriff’s office.

The shooting happened near West 81st Avenue and Leona Drive in Sherrelwood around 10:15 p.m. and involved a sheriff’s deputy who was injured and taken to a hospital, said the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office posted to X that deputies attempted to contact a wanted suspect. They said the suspect exited the house with a firearm and there was an exchange of gunfire. The deputy was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries to the arm and foot, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said Thursday morning.

That deputy has been with the sheriff’s office for nine years.

Deputies are still investigating the shooting but said they were not looking for anyone else involved in the shooting.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect was wanted by the Department of Corrections/parole.
