Colorado Springs mother wanted in double homicide of children, FBI assisting in search

Police and the FBI are searching for a Colorado Springs mom who is suspected of murdering two of her children last week.

The Colorado Springs police have issued an arrest warrant for Kimberlee Singler, 35, who is facing numerous potential charges, including first-degree murder charges, attempted murder charges, child abuse charges and assault in the first degree. Two of the first-degree murder the charges are specific to the death of a child under 12. Two of the child abuse charges address acting knowingly or recklessly to cause the death of a child.

The Colorado Springs Police Department requested help from the FBI in searching for Singler, but the police remain the lead agency on the case, the FBI said in a statement.

The case started on Dec. 19 when police department received reports of a burglary at a home on Palomino Ranch Point near Stetson Hills and Tutt Boulevards. When they arrived, they found a 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy dead inside, a police statement said.

Singler and her 11-year-old daughter were treated for injuries as well, the statement said. They also had to be taken to hospitals for further treatment.

“As the investigation into this case unfolded, it was determined the initial report of a burglary was unfounded,” the statement said.

No further details were provided and the details of the arrest warrant are sealed. The names of the deceased children will not be released under a change in state law passed in the spring that prohibits that information from being shared publicly.

Court documents obtained by Gazette news partner KOAA show that a court ruled Singler had to bring her children to her ex-husband for a holiday visit.

They two were scheduled to meet at the Colorado Springs Stetson Hills Substation on Dec. 16. It is unclear at this time if Singler showed up. The court documents say her ex-husband made an emergency motion for her to enforce the custody agreement on Dec. 17, KOAA’s reporting said.

Singler was last seen on Dec. 23, and her current whereabouts are unknown.

Police spokesman Ira Cronin said police have reason to believe she has left the area.

“We do believe this person is obviously dangerous, we don’t know if she is armed,” Cronin said. “If anyone spots her, we would ask them to call 911 do not approach her.”

A $10 million bond has already been set by the court in the event of her arrest.

In an online profile, Singler describes herself as an actor and singer.
