Perhaps one of the best ways to prove ultimate sports fandom is committing to a piece of inked artwork that displays your support in a permanent and personal way.

According to Betway, an online gambling company, these major professional sports teams inspire the most tattoos. 

Utilizing a combination of Google search volume, Google analytics and Pinterest search volume with a keyword tool during a 12-month time frame ending in November of 2023, Betway collected images and data that determined which teams have the biggest influence on tattoo making.

Check out which sports fanbases are the most (and least) tattooed according to their study:

NFL

Coming in at No. 1 is “America’s Team,” the Dallas Cowboys, with the most search volume for tattoos in the NFL, according to Betway.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers come in second, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles in third. 

Ranked No. 4 in terms of online searches for tattoos is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rounding out the top five is the New York Giants.

Among the least tattooed fanbases in the NFL are the Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens.

NBA

With a line of legendary icons, it may seem unsurprising that the Los Angeles Lakers take No. 1 in terms of tattoos. 

Also a proven dominant team through the years, the Golden State Warriors rank No. 2.

Following at third and fourth are the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks who have about the same amount of search engine tattoo data.

Closing out the top five most tattooed NBA fanbases is the Milwaukee Bucks.

Among the least tattooed fanbases in the NBA are the Charlotte Hornets, Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks.

NHL

Tied for the top NHL franchise with the most tattoo inspiration for fans are the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Next up, the Montreal Canadiens rank No. 3 ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins who rank No. 4.

Taking the final spot in the top five for most tattooed fanbases in the NHL is the Philadelphia Flyers. 

Among the least tattooed fanbases in the NHL are the Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights, Anaheim Ducks and Arizona Coyotes.

MLB

On the baseball front, the New York Yankees come out first in terms of Google searches for MLB team-related tattoo terms.

At No. 2 is the Chicago Cubs, ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets, who have the same amount of search engine tattoo data.

Lastly, the Boston Red Sox rank No. 5 with the St. Louis Cardinals close behind.

Colorado Analysis

None of the four professional sports teams in Colorado — Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Rockies — make the top five most tattooed sports teams in their leagues, according to Betway.

The Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rockies are neither the most nor least tattooed fanbases in the country, data from the study found. 

The Colorado Avalanche is one of the least tattooed fanbases in the NHL and the least tattooed fanbase in Colorado, Betway says.
