Dish Network set to lay off over 150 employees at Englewood headquarters

Dish Network plans to lay off 157 employees at their Englewood headquarters this spring — only eight days after the company officially merged with satellite and internet communications company, EchoStar.

Dish Network announced the upcoming layoffs in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) listing on Monday, claiming that layoffs will include employees at connected sites at the company’s main headquarters at 9601 South Meridian Boulevard in Englewood.

WARN is a law that requires that companies give employees a 60-day notice before official layoffs. The notice is then sent to the state’s Department of Labor and Employment. Because the Dish Network layoffs were officially announced on Monday, workers affected will continue working at the company until an official separation on March 8.

The affected employees are not represented by any union, according to the WARN notification Dish sent to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

The employees who fill various positions are scheduled to be laid off. The biggest numbers were for the 80 “Wireless Senior Reps,” the “Intermediate CS and Tech Reps” with 25 employees laid off, and the “Relationship Repair Specialists” with 15, according to the letter.

Almost 500 local employees were laid off earlier this month, according previous WARN listing in November.

Dish Network reported $3.70 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2023. They made $4.10 billion in the same quarter last year.

The new staffing changes come eight days after the merger between DISH Network Corporation and EchoStar Corp. became official Dec. 31.

A media representative did not respond to The Denver Gazette’s requests for comment by press time.

The merger brings together Dish’s “satellite technology, streaming services and nationwide 5G network with EchoStar’s premier satellite communications solutions,” according to a Jan. 3 news release.

“We have brought together two trailblazing companies with complementary portfolios to create a global connectivity leader with premier wireless, satellite, and video distribution capabilities,”  Charles Ergen, executive chairman of the board of EchoStar, said in the release.

The headquarters will remain in Englewood, where it has been located for more than 40 years.
