Denver weather: Wind chill warning for MLK Jr. Day

A wind chill warning is in effect for metro Denver and northeastern Colorado until 11 a.m., Tuesday as the last day of arctic air holds tightly in place.

The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Dangerously cold wind chills. Wind chills as low as 35 below zero.

Denver residents can expect snow, mainly before 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

It will be cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny and cold, with a high near 1. Wind chill values as low as -21. A north wind to blow between 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tonight, expect a 10% chance of snow before 7 p.m. and skies mostly clear, with a steady temperature around -6. Wind chill values as low as -21 with south winds around 7 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Wind chill values as low as -15. South wind around 7 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 49. South southwest wind 7 to 9 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon.

Thursday: A 20% chance of snow before 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 43.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 37.
