RTD E and H lines on delayed service due to disabled train on one track
With debris taking out an RTD E Line light rail train, stranding it on the tracks, service interruptions, delays and availability will be affected for days.
RTD officials hope full service will resume Monday.
A southbound E Line RTD train suffered damage in an incident that RTD said affected the train’s front car wheels that “may have struck debris on the tracks near the Southmoor Station” — rendering it inoperable.
The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon at about 1:30 p.m., according to a statement to The Denver Gazette.
The disabled train had 17 customers on board, but there were no injuries reported.
With the train stuck on one of the two tracks, RTD has to run on a single track between the Yale and Southmoor stations, causing 45-minute delays between trains.
Friday’s snowy weather also affected the repairs.
“RTD crews are at the incident working to safely remove the vehicle as quickly as possible, but the current wet weather has impacted the timeline,” said Stuart Summers, chief communications and engagement officer for the district. “RTD is also investigating the causal factors and has no definitive answers about the debris at this time.”
Reduced frequency and delays on the E and H lines will continue until the repairs are completed and the train is back in service, hopefully by Monday.
“RTD thanks its customers for their patience,” he said. “Customers should anticipate delays and are encouraged to explore alternate routes on the RTD website if their trips are affected. Use RTD’s Next Ride web app to plan your trip and see bus and train locations in real time.”
“To accommodate customers attending downtown events Saturday night, RTD will increase capacity on E and W light rail trains by adding extra train cars,” according to a statement.
